Norman Collett profits from refrigeration revamp

Apple and pear supplier Norman Collett is set to see cost and energy savings at its new fruit distribution depot, with the recent installation of ICA storage refrigeration equipment by Farm Refrigeration.

The refrigeration plant at the Paddock Wood site uses five semi-hermetic compressors, which work through two evaporators in each of the three 100-tonne cold stores – totalling 2402 cubic metres.

In addition, there are eight dual-discharge evaporators in the 280t consolidation area amounting to 3240 cubic metres.

According to Farm refrigeration the equipment boasts the cost and operational benefit of using liquid pressure amplification pumps.

The amplification reduces the condensing temperature/head pressure and this reduces the absorbed power at the motor.

As such, the refrigeration duty available from the compressors is increased which means there are considerable power savings.

When the system operates below the designed ambient temperature of +30°C, which is only reached on a few days each year, less energy is consumed.

In addition, the LPA pumps are on the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) technology list and therefore qualify for an allowance.
