With Apple Day’s 21st birthday being celebrated on 21 October and 31 October seeing children across Kent enjoying our spookiest celebration of all, Halloween, with its traditional party game of bobbing apples (and eating home-made toffee apples!), this is a fantastic month to enjoy apples right here from the apple-growing capital of the UK.
To add bite to your Halloween night, Norman Collett, the English Fruit Marketing Group in Paddock Wood, is offering the chance for one lucky reader to win a year’s worth of Rubens apples delivered right to your door on 29 October.
Rubens are a deliciously sweet, red, eating apple grown in Kent and a great variety for playing bobbing apples. Drier versions of the Halloween game include stringing apples from a washing line or placing your Rubens in a bowl covered with icing sugar or flour. Children really will emerge looking ghostly white!
To win an apple a day for a year, just answer the following question:
What’s the name of the new variety of apple grown here in Kent?
Send your answers to editor@kent-life.co.uk or on a postcard to: Rubens Apples Competition, Kent Life, Baskerville Place, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 1UG.
Closing date: 22 October. |
