SEASON: November - March

 

A bright crimson apple with a natural bluish bloom. Firm, crisp, fine-textured and juicy. Very white flesh. Clean and refreshing flavour.

The history of Spartan apples

1926 - Raised in 1926 by R.C.Palmer at the Dominion Experiment Station, Summerland, British Columbia, Canada.

1936 - Introduced in to Canadian growers in 1936.  

1959 – Propagated onto M9 rootstock

1960 – Planted at the National Fruit Trials at Brogdale, Faversham

1962 – First UK crop of Spartan

 

1966 – Spartan planted in Marden, Kent at Parsonage Farm.
